Default 112 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

    Follow us on Social Media

ladies and gentlemen, to my weekly Main Event and SmackDown recap list. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list.

The entries are made up of equal parts observations, humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them.

I apologize for the late posting and the exclusion of Main Event this week. DVR complications.

I try to interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

    1. SmackDown opens with a video looking at the various feuds that will be addressed on the show.
    2. The Rock's music hits and the crowd goes nuts as he makes his way out onto the ramp.
    3. The Rock takes an extra-long time on the ramp soaking up the response from the Hershey, Pa. crowd.
    4. We get a quick clip of The Rock shutting up Cena on Monday before Rocky starts talking.
    5. We have a three-man booth again this week. I wonder if Cole is going to stay on SmackDown.
    6. Rock holds up a Hershey's chocolate bar to a little pop from the crowd.
    7. Rock tells another one of his now-trademark stories from his youth. This time he recalls a story about living in Pennsylvania as a teenager.
    8. Ha! The Rock shows a picture of when he was 15.
    9. I like how Rocky gets mad that they won't take the picture off the screen right away.
    10. Rocky talks about being upset that he couldn't find a Whatchamacallit candy bar when he was a kid.
    11. Shut up and buy a Toblerone, like a man.

    12. I did laugh a little when he tells a story about threatening an old lady for her Whatchamacallit.
    13. Rock moves on and talks about kicking Cena's candy-ass.
    14. Awesome! Big Johnny Ace makes his way out in the middle of Rock's catchphrase.
    15. What a terrible time to go to a commercial.
    16. I have to say, I am really happy to see JL. His dry humor and the heat he generates have been missed.
    17. If Rock doesn't make a Funkhouser or Super Dave reference, I am going to be very disappointed.

    18. If WWE reached out to Bob Einstein and had him come on as Super Dave and confront Laurinaitis, I would be the happiest wrestling fan in the world. They could even do a skit where Big Show chokeslams him off the top of the Empire State Building or something to play to the Super Dave character.
    19. We return to the crowd telling Johnny Ace what they think of him.
    20. The Rock asks who in the blue hell he is, and Johnny Ace introduces himself with his ridiculously long title, with the word "former" added in there a few times.
    21. The Rock is pissed that JL interrupted him, and JL says Teddy said he could come out and talk to him.
    22. JL proposes that he be in Rock's corner at WrestleMania since they both want Cena to lose.
    23. "There is no way, AND BIG JOHNNY SAYS NO WAY, John Cena will beat you at WrestleMania." Classic Laurinaitis.
    24. Rock shakes his hand, but he holds on a little longer and then delivers a spinebuster and The People's Elbow.
    25. I kind of want some chocolate after watching that segment.

    26. Chris Jericho's pyro hits, and he makes his way out to the ring. He is taking on his former NXT protege, Wade Barrett.
    27. Miz is on commentary for this match to help hype his IC title match at WrestleMania after the break.
    28. Jericho and Barrett exchange some offense before Jericho gets going and dropkicks Barrett before he sends him out of the ring.
    29. Barrett kicks Jericho right off the turnbuckle to the outside as we head to a break.
    30. That felt like a really short amount of time between commercials.
    31. And why are there so many commercials for Axe body wash?
    32. We return to see Jericho starting to build some offense, but Barrett avoids a Lionsault and hits the Winds of Change for a close two count.
    33. Jericho and Barrett counter some finishers before Jericho sends Barrett over the top rope. Jericho tries to springboard over the top onto him, but Barrett moves and Jericho lands hard on the outside.
    34. Miz and Barrett exchange some heated words before Barrett gets back in the ring and eats a Codebreaker to give Jericho the pin and the win.
    35. Jericho gets on the mic and talks about Fandango, who is clearly about to come out since entrance setup is on the stage.
    36. Jericho tries to say his name again by saying a bunch of wrong things.
    37. Nice. A Funaki reference.
    38. And he sings some Queen!
    39. Fandango's music hits, and he comes out with his dance partner.
    40. Line of the night from JBL: "This is like Baryshnikov crossed with like, Ken Shamrock or something."
    41. Fandango teases a fight, but then decides to bail.

    42. We get a video package for the Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar match after the break. It is very well produced like most WWE video packages.
    43. I still think the "big reveal" being that it will be a no holds barred match was anticlimactic.
    44. We get another video right away featuring Josh Mathews interviewing Paul Heyman, who is sporting a nice shiner.
    45. Heyman is always on. This guy never has a bad promo or interview. WWE was smart to get him back.
    46. After yet another commercial, we get a bench press challenge between Mark Henry and Ryback.
    47. This is based on an NFL training event which apparently has a record of 51 reps at 225 pounds.
    48. WWE has managed to address five feuds in the first hour of the show. That is kind of impressive.
    49. What was the point of Teddy Long cutting off Booker so he could introduce Mark Henry?
    50. Henry uses some smelling salts before he lays down and starts pumping out reps like a champ.
    51. I know this was posted by WWE earlier in the week, but it is impressive to watch him do 54 reps.
    52. OK, 53. The ref didn't count the last one because he didn't lock his arms before racking it.
    53. Henry starts having some trouble around 45, but he beat the NFL record.
    54. Henry gets up and screams in Ryback's face.
    55. Ryback actually starts pumping out reps faster than Henry was doing them at first.
    56. Ryback begins to have trouble at 45 as well, but he gets to 53, and then Henry pushes down on the bar and holds it against his neck.
    57. I am really curious how many Ryback could have done had WWE not had Henry step in.
    58. I did not think this would be a good segment, but I actually enjoyed that. We saw two guys do something really impressive, and Henry did something pretty violent by WWE standards to push the feud another week.
    59. Ryback struggles with several officials as he tries to catch his breath.
    60. That was a pretty effective non-wrestling segment. I am just curious if there is a real world record for most reps at 225 pounds or if they just have NFL records to go by.

    61. After the break, we see a replay and then we go to the ring where AJ, Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston are waiting.
    62. I wonder how Langston would have done in that bench press contest?
    63. Kaitlyn and Daniel Bryan are taking on AJ and Ziggler.
    64. Ziggler kicks things off with a shoulder block, and Bryan answers back with an armdrag.
    65. AJ and Kaitlyn get the tag and Kaitlyn tries to go right for AJ, but the ref pulls her back and AJ takes advantage.
    66. AJ hits two neckbreakers without letting go of Kaitlyn for a two count.
    67. Kaitlyn takes AJ out with a clothesline that makes her do a back flip before crashing to the ground.
    68. Langston takes a cheap shot at Bryan before Ziggler hits a nice dropkick for a two count.
    69. Bryan almost locks in the No Lock and Ziggler tags out to AJ.
    70. Bryan ends up sending Ziggler into the timekeeper's area before Kaitlyn takes out AJ with a spear for the pin and the win.
    71. That was a pretty entertaining match for being only a few minutes long.
    72. AJ needs to wrestle more. It's as simple as that. She is too good to waste as arm candy.

    73. Dean Ambrose looks like he hasn't showered for weeks in the video from The Shield.
    74. After the break, we get a match between Jack Swagger and Khali.
    75. Zeb Colter and Swagger talk about how Khali, Natalya and Hornswoggle represent what is wrong with this country.
    76. Khali uses his power to control the early part of the match until Swagger rips his leg over the top rope and starts setting him up for the Patriot Lock.
    77. Swagger ends up locking in the Patriot Lock outside the ring, and he gets both himself and Khali counted out.
    78. After the bell, he throws Hornswoggle into the barricade.
    79. Ricardo Rodriguez comes out on the ramp to distract Swagger while Alberto Del Rio attacks him from behind.
    80. Ricky hits Colter with his crutch before giving it to Del Rio so he can send Swagger packing.
    81. That was another effective way to advance a feud. SmackDown is on a roll tonight.

    82. Big Show, Randy Orton and Sheamus give an interview backstage about how they are finally on the same page.
    83. Sheamus and Show have a little exchange, but Orton gets them back on the same page.
    84. Sheamus, Orton and Show come out after the break to face Antonio Cesaro and Team Rhodes Scholars.
    85. Three future world champions vs. three former world champions. This will be better than the average six-man tag match.
    86. Sandow delivers a great promo during their entrance. I especially like how he always calls Cody Rhodes his best friend. It's a funny little detail.
    87. Cesaro's yodeling is right up there with Jillian Hall's singing.
    88. Cesaro and Orton start things off for their teams, with Orton hitting a back elbow to get the upper hand.
    89. Sheamus tags in and he pounds on Cesaro like he owes him money.
    90. Big Show tags in and Cesaro breaks away to tag Rhodes, who hesitantly makes his way into the ring.
    91. It's funny how these two were WrestleMania 28 opponents and they find themselves in the ring against each other again almost a year later to the day.
    92. We return from the break to see Sheamus holding Sandow by the beard and tagging in Orton.
    93. Orton gets backed into the corner of his opponents and Rhodes tags in to keep him grounded.
    94. Quick tags from the heels keep Orton away from his team.
    95. Cesaro hits his delayed gutwrench while yodeling for a two count.
    96. Sandow tags in and hits the Elbow of Disdain for a two count.
    97. Orton hits his signature backbreaker on Sandow to get some breathing room.
    98. Sheamus gets the hot tag and he takes it to Rhodes with lots of his signature offense.
    99. Sheamus hits both Rhodes and Sandow with a set of Irish Hand Grenades.
    100. Rhodes takes White Noise before Sandow and Cesaro attack Sheamus.
    101. Big Show hits the KO Punch to Cesaro and Sandow takes the RKO.
    102. Big Show cheers on Sheamus as he sets up for a Brogue Kick to get the pin and the win.
    103. After the match, we hear The Shield's music hits during the celebration and they appear in the crowd.
    104. Orton, Sheamus and Show decide to take the fight to them and go into the crowd to meet them.
    105. All hell breaks loose in the crowd as Orton and Sheamus go after Rollins and Ambrose and Big Show goes after Reigns.
    106. They fight up into a balcony and Big Show nails Reigns with a drink that must have gotten about 50 people wet.
    107. The Shield retreat through a door and Orton's music hits as he and his team stand tall in the crowd.
    108. That is a hell of a way to end a show.
    109. That is how you do a SmackDown on the road to WrestleMania.
    110. Just about every single feud was covered in the span of two hours and nothing felt forced.
    111. We had a few good matches and some pretty good non-wrestling segments that pushed the angles forward another week.
    112. I would say the only thing they could have done better was given Swagger a better opponent than Khali. Otherwise it was a solid show from start to finish.
