Default MOVIE REVIEW: Aagey Se Right !!!

Shreyas and Mahie's film takes the wrong route all the way !!!

Audiences really had a lot of expectations from UTV's film Aagey Se Right due to the star cast Shreyas Talpade, Mahie Gill, Kay Kay Menon, Shenaz Treasurywala and Vijay Maurya to name a few. But unfortunately, the film has turned out to be just a notch better than Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge maybe in production values but definitely not in storytelling.

the film begins with some terrorist action in a dark jungle and Kay Kay Menon's appearance. Just when you wonder whether it's a comedy after all, Shreyas Talpade's track begins.

Shreyas plays Dinkar Waghmare, a good for nothing village boy who lands a job in the police force, as his dead dad was apparently a commissioner or something (strange that his mom (Bharati Achrekar) and he live in such middle-class conditions, then).

In what is only his second day at work, he happens to lose his revolver to some hooligans. Now, the unlikely cop is on a treasure hunt for the weapon, taunted time and again by visions of his overbearing mom scolding him.

Mahie Gill plays a TV journalist who Dinkar fancies.

The parallel track is that of Balma Rashidui Khairi (Kay Kay Menon), a Pakistani terrorist, and Shetty (Vijay Maurya), the weapons dealer. These two actors are at their best.

It's funny to see how a dangerous, Urdu-speaking terrorist ends up falling in love with the beautiful singer Pearl (Shenaz Treasurywala). Not only does he learn tapori lingo and mannerisms from to impress her, but also ultimately abandons his mission to blow up the Police Day function. But of course, his aides think otherwise and plant the bomb themselves.

Another track is that of the love story between a tapori junior artiste and the police commissioner's daughter, played by Shiv Pandit and Shruti Seth respectively.

Amidst all this, Dinkar keeps finding his revolver at crisis locations, and keeps losing it again. His gun is basically used by several people as a threat, and in a bid to get his hands on the weapon; the cop ends up saving the possible victim.

This makes him a hero in the eyes of the reporter, and Dinkar is splashed across the channel, much to the chagrin of his immediate boss (Rajesh Khera).

The climax is of course, about finding the revolver, and about defusing the bomb at the police function where Pearl is performing. But by this time, Aagey Se Right is a drag and you feel like taking aagey se right to the EXIT door.

But the only thing that makes director Indrajit Nattoji's film worth a watch is the Kay Kay-Shenaz love story, and Vijay Maurya's superb comic timing.

Kay Kay is his usual best as the terrorist who falls in love and abandons his 'mission'. Shenaz Treasurywala is looking sexy, and definitely hotter than Mahie Gill. She also has the two best tracks in the film. The two actors share good chemistry.

Maurya is the guy who played Dawood Ibrahim in Black Friday, and has delivered bit but memorable roles in Satya, Paanch, Socha Na Tha, Bombay to Bangkok, Mumbai Meri Jaan, and recently, Love Aaj Kal. By now its clear that this actor gets into the mould of any character with ease.

Mahie Gill hardly has a role in the film, and looks OK. One definitely expected more from her after Dev.D.

As for Shreyas Talpade it would be fair to say that he needed the support of some outstanding actors to carry the burden of the film. He couldn't have done it on his own. One wonders if he was the hero, after all. As in the film, an unlikely one in this case.

RJ-turned-model-turned TV anchor and now actor, Shiv Pandit, impresses in his role as the. Shruti Seth acts fine.

But why the film is called Aagey Se Right, beats me. Because, our cop Waghmare keeps taking the wrong direction, or the easier route? But wasn't it about the 'gun', after all? Another Gun movie this month!

Verdict: UTV's Aagey Se Right really goes directionless after a point. You could wait till it makes its TV debut and watch it at home.

    Rating: 1.5/5
