Revealed: Abhishek's character in Raavana
Who's playing Raavana and what's the plot? If you've been wondering too, your wait is over! Abhishek is supposed to be portraying... Not a mythological god or villain. He is playing a naxal leader. The character is an urban liberal who joins the war against the state, much like the captured Mumbaikar Kobad Ghandy.
Raavana is the character's name, which in all likelihood will be an alias.
A source says, “Mani sir has made several films that focuses on the element of a group of people against the state. Some of this can be seen in the plots of Kashmir Roja, Dil Se and Yuva, which was based on a college union. He has always used serious issues as the backdrop for his films.”
Talking about the filmmaker's obsession with serious issues, source said: “Bombay was based on Hindu-Muslim riots, Dil Se was based on a suicide bomber. People think Raavana is some sort of modern epic, but it’s actually inspired by a character like Kobad Ghandy and Ash is playing the love interest in his life."
Besides Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan, the movie stars Manisha Koirala, Govinda, Nikhil Dwiwedi and yesteryear heroine Padmini Kolhapuri. Among the many other interesting things about the movie are the stories that it has been the subject of. Recently it was reported that the film would have multiple climaxes, and four different ones were shot, whereas actually it is quite a conventional film.
