Vidya Balan fights for justice
After winning accolades and awards for her restrained and perfect performance of Maa in Paa, Vidya Balan is uber-charged about playing Sabrina Lall, murdered model Jessica Lal’s sister in Rajkumar Gupta’s biopic No One Killed Jessica.‘I feel the role of Sabrina Lall is tailor made for me. We start working on it in February and I have already started preparing for it. I loved Aamir and I identify with Rajkumar’s sensibilities as a director,’ says Vidya cheerfully.‘No one has been able to forget the Jessica Lall murder case as it has been in the news consistently for ten years. That she finally got justice reflects our changing society.
The film will be a thriller for the masses because everybody has to know about what really happened,’ says Balan. Is she scared about starring in a hard-hitting film like this? ‘No,’ she quickly retorts. ‘I have a lot of faith and I pray all the time so I have nothing to fear,’ she smiles, adding, ‘Everybody knows what happened in the case. It’s not an expose but a depiction of real events and the emotional and painful journey of a family seeking justice.’Vidya is evenly excited about her other films. She has her hands full with the promotions of Ishqiya which is all set to release. About her upcoming films, she says, ‘There is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Chenab Gandhi which will start after he completes Guzaarish.’
When quizzed about Gulzar’s film, Nikhil Advani’s Chand Bhai and Milan Luthria’s Beehad, she says, ‘I would love to be part of Gulzarji’s film whenever it happens. That would make 2010 the best year ever. I have no idea about the other two films.’
