Delhi Commissioner of Industries Chetan Sanghi today said the new Industrial Policy, approved by the Delhi Government recently, would not hamper the existing industries while promoting hi-tech and non-polluting industries.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Sanghi, who is an architect of the new policy, said the effort of the government would be to facilitate existing industrial units covered under prohibited category to reorient their activities in conformity with the provisions of the Delhi Master Plan 2021.

When asked how he was planning to enable the existing industries to graduate to knowledge-based industries, Mr Sanghi replied that the policy envisaged their transformation through skilled development, upgradation of technology, tailor-made training programmes for the entrepreneurs to enable them to upgrade the technology or start hi-tech industries. ''The policy also envisages infrastructure development through better operation and maintenance of industrial estates and facilitate business by simplifications through e-enabling measures.'' About the problem of pre-1990 and impermissible industries in local commercial areas, he categorically said that another relocation was not possible. Units in non-conforming areas had a fair chance to apply for alternate plots under the relocation scheme of 1996, he added.

Being the CMD of the Delhi State Industrial And Infrastructure Development Corporation(DSIIDC) also, Mr Sanghi revealed that an MoU had been signed with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under which DSIIDC would build eco-friendly green buildings.

The Corporation will soon start work on developing additional infrastructure of NIFT in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. ''We are already building their green building in Hauz Khas in Delhi.

We hope to get similar projects in other states also,'' he said.
