    Default Dravid's double ton puts Karnataka in commanding position

    Skipper Rahul Dravid hit a masterly unbeaten 209 to guide Karnataka to a mammoth 575 for seven declared in the first innings against Uttar Pradesh on the second day of their Ranji Trophy semifinal encounter played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here today.

    In reply, UP began disastrously ending the day at 11 for with key batsman opener Shivkant Shukla (0) and night watchman Bhuvanesh Kumar (0) were back in the pavilion.

    Tanmay Srivastava (11) and skipper Mohammad Kaif (0) were at the crease when the stumps were drwan.

    Amit Verma's direct hit found Shukla short of his crease while R Mithun trapped Kumar to reduced Uttar Pradesh in precarious position.

    Earlier, Dravid, who was under shell scoring an sedate unbeaten 37 on the opening day yesterday, showed his real prowess and his game plan by guiding the hosts to a commanding position.

    Dravid's innings was studded with 26 fours. The declaration came soon after the right-handed batsman completed his double hundred.

    It was Dravid's 17th century in Ranji trophy, which include five double hundreds.

    Incidentally, Dravid had scored his highest 215 in Ranji Trophy against UP when Karnataka had won the trophy at home in 1998.
