Punjab-based towel manufacturer Abhishek Industries Limited (AIL) with its Trident brand of towel range, exported extensively overseas, Sunday commissioned a new towel unit in Barnala district of Punjab, a company official said.

'This new unit is part of expansion programme of AIL's terry towel division. With completion of this expansion, the total production capacity of our terry towel division has increased to 374 looms,' said an official spokesperson of AIL here Sunday evening.

He added: 'This project has been completed with a capital outlay of Rs.359.8 million and commercial production on the new facilities has been started with effect from Saturday.'

Trident is doing towel business with top retail chains like Wal-Mart, JC Penny, Target, Sears, Guest Supply, Reebok, United Colours of Benetton, Ikea, Liz Clairburne, Chris Madden and Nautica.

'Now with the addition of new manufacturing facilities, AIL would be able to focus more on value added products for niche segment of high-end European and domestic market. It will also result in the increased revenue of terry towel business and better operational margins,' said the AIL official.
