Uniform Goods And Service Tax To Be Implemented From January 8
According to goods and services tax (GST) committee chairperson Asim Dasgupta, uniform goods and services tax to be implemented from January 8 next year. So this will replace the earlier systems where a number of state level and national level taxes were collected from different sources.
"There will be a joint statement after a meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Jan 8 on goods and services tax rollout," the West Bengal finance minister and chairman of the empowered committee, Asim Dasgupta, said onFriday on the evee of 23rd Industrial Trade Fair organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"We have a two-day meeting from Jan 7. We will meet the finance minister before giving a statement on this," Gupta told reporters.
Earlier it was stated that it would be difficult for the union government and state governments to implement the goods and services tax regime from April 1 as targeted. But he said that the new strategy would come into effect in a suitable time.
However, Dasgupta did not comment on whether consensus with all the states had been arrived for the GST.
The new regime is targeted at achieving a larger common pan-India market and uniform indirect taxes on goods and services across the country at lower rates by removing the clauses on cascading effects from the present format.
