A ‘real’ short film about momb
Rima Amrapurkar the daughter of Bollywood baddie Sadashiv Amrapurkar is a film maker with a voice. ‘Jananee’ her short film on the traditional and technical complications of sonography on pregnant women is creating ripples at selected festivals.
Shot at a shoe-string budget of just a rupee and a half lakhs, the movie got completed in seven days and Rima had not used the good word of his father for any benefit and shot the film on her own.
Staring Vinod Dhage and Darshana Kharaat, the movie takes the issue of the nexus between tradition and technology that forces many women for abortion and asks the question why some women don’t have a right on their womb.
The movie was recently shown at the IFFI Goa and also at the Iran’s Ruyesh Film Festival and is shortly is going to be shown at Karim Nagar at the Fourth National Short and Documentary Film Festival.
Rima had done an extensive research on the subject, being a post graduate of economics who had earlier worked as a research associate at Pune Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics for a year helped as she had already done a lot of research on female feticide and child health.
Sanjay Sankla, who is a veteran in Bollywood having edited several films for various film makers like Mahesh Bhatt, Indra Kumar, Suneel Darshan, Sameer Karnik and Raj Kanwar, has produced the film besides editing it. Here’s some food for thought what say………………
