Rituparno Ghosh’s next based on Satyajit Ray`s real life!
It isn’t easy to make a film on the private life of a legendary filmmaker like Satyajit Ray when his fans guard his life and art ferociously. But sources close to Rituparno Ghosh’s new Bengali project Abohomaan insist that the film is inspired by Ray’s life. Ray is said to have faced emotional tussle in life, including his relationships with his wife and son. It will be interesting to see which portions of his life the filmmaker chooses to depict.
Veteran actor Deepankar De plays the role inspired by Ray in Rituparno’s film. Originally, Rituparno wanted Amitabh Bachchan to play the protagonist and Shabana Azmi as his wife. Madhur Dixit, he hoped, would play the actress who catches his eye, and Farhan Akhtar as the son.
In reality though, Mamta Shankar and Ananya Chatterjee play the wife and actress, while Jishu Sengupta is the disgruntled son who stands up for his mother’s rights in Abohomaan.
While Rituparno remained unavailable for comment, Amit Khanna, Chairman of Reliance Big Pictures that has produced Abohomaan, doesn’t deny the similarities between the protagonist in Abohomaan and Satyajit Ray. Amit says, “Those who know Satyajit Ray’s personal life will definitely see parallels in the film. However, Rituparno Ghosh has completely fictionalised the material. You can hunt and pin down the similarities. But you can’t say it’s the actual life of any man.”
