Wanderer Satish Kaushik off to Toronto for Road Movie world premiere !!!
There is a lot happening in the life of Satish Kaushik. For the last couple of months, he was truly busy promoting his directorial venture Teree Sang. Now he is readying himself for travelling to Toronto for the world premiere of Road Movie, where he plays one of the principal protagonists along with Abhay Deol and Tannishtha Chatterjee.
Directed by Dev Benegal (Split Wide Open and English August), this Indian Film Company and Studio 18 production has been invited for a world premiere at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in September; the film would be screened there on the 18th.
Says an excited Satish Kaushik, who in spite of being in the industry for close to three decades now, still carries that child-like enthusiasm when it comes to cinema. "Yes, it's a great opportunity for me to visit Toronto for the film's world premiere. Even though Road Movie would be screened on 18th, I will go there on 12th itself. I want to catch up with world cinema. The last few months have been hectic with Teree Sang and now I want to relax and enjoy a little," says Satish Kaushik, who is happy wearing the different hats of actor, producer and director.
Incidentally, just like in his last international flick Brick Lane where he got rave reviews for his performance, Satish Kaushik won't be seen as the funny man in Road Movie.
Laughs Satish Kaushik, "Somehow, in Bollywood, I have always been offered comic roles. However, I am being looked at differently when it comes to movies being made in the West. I feel proud of the fact that I did something differently in Brick Lane and got so much of love, affection and respect from audiences and filmmakers there. I look forward to similar reception when it comes to Road Movie too. The reason being that even though in this film too my character laughs a lot, there is a lot more depth to him than what one perhaps misses out on the exterior."
In the film, Satish Kaushik plays the role of a wanderer who seemingly knows everything about life. "Well, you can say that," says Satish Kaushik, "Give him any job in the world and he is confident that he can do that. That's the beauty of his character."
Shot primarily in Rajasthan and Kutch, the film features Abhay Deol as Vishnu, a restless young man least interested in his father's faltering hair oil business. He hits the road with a travelling cinema and meets quite a few colourful and unforgettable characters. Satish Kaushik and Tannishtha Chatterjee, who plays the role of a gypsy woman, are two such characters. The film is expected to be released for public viewing in 2010.<img src=http://www.orkut-scrap.net/img/Animated-Dolls/1.gif >
