Memphis-based wrestling promoter and television personality Corey Maclin died in an automobile accident Tuesday night, according to WREG.com and WTVA.com.
A spokesperson for the Mississippi Highway Patrol says Maclin was traveling on Interstate 55 near Sardis, Mississippi when the accident occurred. According to an eyewitness, Maclin's car turned left and veered into the median at approximately 10:30 p.m. as he was driving north. It then rolled over several times as it crossed the southbound lanes.
Maclin promoted Memphis Championship Wrestling in the 2000s with local wrestlers as well as a legends associated with wrestling in the city. A television show for the promotion regularly aired on weekends.
Maclin is also notable for promoting PMG Clash of Legends in 2007, which featured Big Show in his lone independent match after becoming a national wrestler, against Hulk Hogan. Jerry "The King" Lawler was originally scheduled to wrestle Hogan, but WWE vetoed Lawler appearing at the event. This resulted in Maclin filing a lawsuit against WWE for punitive damages.
