[Football] Pre-Season Friendly: A-League All Stars 1-5 Manchester United
David Moyes claimed his first win as Manchester United manager in convincing fashion against A-League All Stars.
Danny Welbeck and Jesse Lingard scored twice in a 5-1 success for United in Sydney on Saturday, as a massive crowd of more than 83,000 fans attended the exhibition match.
Lingard, who was on loan at Leicester City last season, started the rout with a goal after just 11 minutes and Welbeck doubled their lead before half-time.
Both players scored again in the second half before star striker Robin van Persie – who played the final 30 minutes – wrapped up the win with a late goal.
Besart Berisha netted the only goal of the match for the A-League All Stars, made up of players from five A-League sides.
The likes of Brett Emerton, Liam Miller and Michael McGlinchey were involved for the All Stars but they were powerless against a ruthless United outfit.
Wilfried Zaha was also impressive for the winners and showed several signs that he could be a key player in United's attempts to retain their Premier League title this season.
Phil Jones and Welbeck went close early before Lingard showed poise to finish off an excellent team move that involved Ryan Giggs.
Lingard created the second goal, finding Giggs on the left who supplied Welbeck with a terrific cutback, and the finish was just as good.
Welbeck hit the post just before half-time and the All Stars made them pay seven minutes after the break as Brisbane Roar forward Berisha rifled a shot from the edge of the penalty area past United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.
But United's response was swift as Lingard thrashed his effort into the top corner before Van Persie's corner was headed in by Welbeck.
And the Dutchman got himself on the scoresheet with three minutes to go to cap an impressive win.
