Sanjay Dutt hops on to South remake bandwagon
After Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar, it's Sanjay Dutt's turn to jump onto the South remake bandwagon. Dutt's 'Policegiri', which also stars Prachi Desai and Prakash Raj, is a remake of 'Saamy' (2003), a superhit Tamil film.
Says producer Rahul Aggarwal, "We decided to remake the film, because in the past, many South remakes have found an audience and have been successful. Saamy had all the ingredients of a typical entertainer. The action in our film will appeal to the masses and the classes."
He adds, "Also, Dutt has been doing comedy of late, but he fits the role of an action hero to the T. People want to see him flexing his muscles and beating up the goons to pulp."
Producer TP Aggarwal chips in, "Over-the-top action, foot-tapping numbers and a good-versus-evil angle, which is a given formula in the South, has always had a universal appeal."
Policegiri, produced by Star Entertainment Worldwide Pvt Ltd, releases July 5.
