Acting like a damsel in distress while being surrounded by miscreants just encourages them to harass her further. On Friday night’s (28 June 2013) episode of Life OK’s Amrit Manthan (Director’s Kut Productions), you had seen Nimrit (Ankita Sharma) defending herself at a lascivious bar. She was obviously terrified initially, when inebriated men were gathering around her in an attempt to attack her.
Right in time, her presence of mind, made her grasp a kitchen knife by the power of which she saved herself from grave danger.

We contacted Ankita to get her views on that scene. We applauded the fact that the writer hadn’t made Nimrit cry ‘bachao bachao’. She said, “We have shown that a girl isn’t weak. In fact she is strong enough to protect herself if the situation demands so.”

Why was a woman who can protect herself from ruffians getting shy of wearing a Western dress in the same episode? It was quite evident that her husband Karan (Angad Hasija) had forced her to wear it. To us this knee length dress didn’t seem to be indecent though. The actress clarified, “It is just that she was feeling awkward as she hadn’t worn a dress like this in front of her family members and kids before.”
In real life the actress is open to playing roles which are the polar opposite of a demure saree or salwar clad Indian bahu. Her dream role in fact is of Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture which was inspired from the life of Silk Patil, a South Indian actress noted for her erotic roles. She explains, “Vidya had executed the role so well. It wasn’t the least bit over-the-top or vulgar.”

Delving into the near past, she says that the role closest to her heart was that of Preeto on Imagine TV’s Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto. She elaborates, “Preeto was so much like myself that I hardly had to act.”

Zooming into the future as far as TV is concerned, the actress would love to be a part of Color’s Jhalak Dikhhala Jaa as she loves to dance. We also hopes that she appears on the show soon.
