Three things count the most in Jhalak, grace, entertainment and the journey: Remo D'souza
The very talented choreographer cum director Remo D’souza is back on Hindi GEC with Colors’ Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 (BBC Worldwide Productions). So, what’s new this season from this MJ (Michael Jackson) fan?
“I have a lot of expectations from this season as there are a lot of hardworking people which include dancers. Hence, I will be strict so that there are better performances,” answered the excited judge.
What are the criteria as far as scores are concerned? “Three things count the most and they are grace, entertainment and journey,” he quipped.
Every year there are talks about Jhalak being a stage for non-dancers, but a lot of dancers are seen on this platform as well. When we prodded him to detail about the same, he averred, “Yes, every year we do have dancers be it Yana Gupta, Isha Sherwani or Lauren Gottlieb but all of them are good at one dance form. They do not master all of them. In Jhalak, one needs to learn every form of dancing and I think they are all new to it,” Remo informed.
You were also a part of the Bengali version of Jhalak. Are you under a contract? “Nothing of that sort, it’s just that the first film that I directed was a Bengali film (Lal Pahader Kotha). So, since I am attached to the place, I couldn’t decline the offer,” he reasoned.
When asked if he is waiting to see any of his favourite celebrities in this season of Jhalak, he stated, “I am lucky to be a part of Jhalak. And my wish list was over in the last season of Jhalak when I got to sit next to Madhuri (Dixit Nene). This season I wish to sit next to Bachchan Sir (Amitabh Bachchan).”
What about judging Dance India Dance (DID)? “I am what I am because of DID. Hence, I will be associated with DID,
but I will do it whenever the original DID comes back,” he observed. Was DID moms offered to you? “Yes, it was offered to me,” he recalled.
Well Remo, wish you luck with this season!
