Shootout... story is incorrect: Cop Isaque Bhagwan
Real-life encounter cop Isaque Bhagwan tells TOI why he asked Sanjay Gupta to change the name of Anil's character in the upcoming film
That the names of all characters in Sanjay Gupta's Shootout at Wadala (SAW) except Manya Surve played by John Abraham have been changed has already been reported.
We can now reveal that the name of Anil Kapoor's character, based on real-life encounter specialist Isaque Bhagwan, has been changed to Afaq. Speaking to Mirror, the cop told us why he asked Gupta for the name change.
"After I saw the promo of SAW, I realised the story was not what I had narrated to the makers, which is why I decided to withdraw the NOC (No Objection Certificate) issued to them,'' said Isaque, adding he had issued the NOC without charging a single penny but with the promise that the makers would stick to the truth. When he found they hadn't kept their word, he told them he didn't want to be associated with a factually incorrect film.
Said Isaque: "In reality, Manya Surve was killed in an encounter with the police. Whereas the film shows help being sought from the underworld in order to kill the gangster."
Apparently Gupta and author S Hussain Zaidi on whose book Dongri to Dubai the film is based, spent a lot of time with the cop. "Anil too visited my office and my home. I gave him my uniform while he learnt my mannerisms and the way I went about things," Isaque said.
