Neta Abhi inspired by Milind, Sachin
If Pa Bachchan had been a hit politician in his time, beta Abhishek need not have looked further for a role model upon which he could mould his
netaji character for R Balki’s film Paa.
But the Big B’s stint at Parliament ended in a cloud of controversy, and Abhi — dressed for the role in crisp white kurta-pyjamas and rimless specs, only the Gandhi
topi is missing — was forced to seek inspiration elsewhere. Boyhood friends and Congress MPs Sachin Pilot, 32, and Milind Deora, 33, came to mind. Said Bollywood’s politician, “I styled my look on Sachin, and my character is based on Milind.”
We disagree. It is more like that other childhood playmate, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, 39, that Abhishek, 33, looks in the film than anybody else. Perhaps, relations between the Gandhis and Bachchans being as estranged as they are, Abhishek thought it prudent to learn his steps from other young Congressmen. Though Bollywood is saying, going to the Congress for help in playing this role is like carrying coal to Newcastle, because all the guidance Abhishek needs is at home already — in the shape and form of friend, family member and Samajwadi Party head honcho Amar Singh!
