No botox for me: Saif
He isn’t unlike his Bollywood colleagues when it comes to
And the cause of Saif’s late arrival at this event was his massage and workout sessions in the hotel, we were told. But he insists his flight was delayed and apologises profusely. “I know it’s acceptable in Mumbai, but not in this part of the world,” he says sheepishly. That’s where his impeccable manners kick in. Saif’s also effortlessly funny, which leaves us wondering why he hasn’t done an out-and-out comedy yet. “No one’s offered me one. I don’t know why. But it’s difficult to sustain the audience’s attention with just comedy,” he says.
But comedies are what have been selling the most in recent times. “As a producer, I would never make a film in a genre because it’s selling the most. That’s a wrong approach. I’d produce movies on stories I want to tell, stories that excite me,” states Saif. And offers from the west haven’t excited him either. “I get better offers here,” he observes.
It’s time to clear the air about ‘issues’ and ‘controversies’ and we ask him about his rift with director Imtiaz Ali during the making of Love Aaj Kal. The director wanted to reshoot a song, while Saif was reluctant owing to the swelling budget, suggest reports. “Completely untrue. I get along really well with Imtiaz. I probably wanted to go home and he wanted to shoot,” he laughs.
As for his secret botox session in London, Saif laughs, saying, “Maybe when you see the film, you’d realise that I need some. No, I’m joking. I think yoga and exercise are good enough to stay youthful. I’ll never go for botox because the lines on your face come with experience. I’m proud of them,” he says.
He finds it “weird” that a news channel carried reports of his divorce with Amrita Singh on Sunday. “We got divorced four years ago,” he reveals.
He has another film lined up from his production house. But direction is not something he’s interested in. “It’s too time-consuming and requires a lot of commitment. It’s an incredibly tough job,” signs off Saif.
