Director Mehul Kumar gets 2 years imprisonment
Jaipur court sentences Mehul Kumar to 2 years' imprisonment, he is out on bail
Mehul Kumar, the man who made blockbusters like Krantiveer and Tiranga, has been in a financial mess for quite some time now and over the years, legal cases have been piling up against the director.
Recently a Jaipur court sentenced him to two-year term in a cheque bounce case. However, he was later released on bail. The order came following the complaint of Manmohandas Mundada and Sunil Bansal.
Kumar had borrowed Rs 50 lakh from Mundada and paid the amount through a cheque that was not honoured. In a separate case, another cheque worth Rs 10 lakh given to one Sunil Bansal too was not honoured.
When contacted, Bansal told TOI: "If Kumar does not pay up, we will drag him to a higher court. He had to give me Rs 10 lakh but with the added interest, the court has asked him to pay Rs 17 lakh. Furthermore, he has to pay Rs 46 lakh interest to Mundada, which means he has to shell out Rs 96 lakh to Mundada."
According to sources, Kumar still owes various banks and private individuals a significant amount of money. One of Kumar's biggest creditors is the head of Popular Entertainment Network (PEN), Mumbai based Jayantilal Gada, whom Kumar owes Rs 25 crore. He was hardly surprised by the news and said: "This has become a habit with him. I have 54 separate cases going against him in Mumbai. There are many other creditors like Shyam Bahadur in Bihar, Hirachand in Mumbai who have filed legal complaints against him."
When contacted, Mehul Kumar rubbished the allegations levelled against him and said: "This is a conspiracy against me. All these people are in cahoots with one another."
