We need to look at our own roles in society: Swara Bhaskar
Delhi-girl Swara Bhaskar rose to fame with her role of Payal (Kangana Ranaut's best friend) in the film Tanu Weds Manu, which also won her several nominations and also an award for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role that year.
Now that she is ready to play the title role in her next movie - Listen Amaya - which also sees the reunion of veteran actors Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval after 25 years, Swara also reacts strongly when asked her about the gang-rape case that happened in her city and shook the entire nation.
Talking about the case, she says, "It is a shame that something like this has happened in our country, that too at a time which is not very late. I think it is about time that we look at our roles in the society. I think Indians have become very laidback. People have become callous and complacent with the way their lives are going. That girl really fought for her life and she wanted to live. In fact, my theatre group in Mumbai - Swaang - has also composed a song based on this incident - Ma Ni Meri Main Nai Darna. I have done the English translation of the song. It is about time where we take some serious action."
