Religion is a very interesting subject: Bhavesh Mandalia
Screenplay writer Bhavesh Mandalia, who made people sit up and take notice of his writing skills thanks to the super hit film OMG: Oh My God!, feels that religion presents a great subject to make movies.
This Vadodara boy, who was recently in his hometown for a couple of days, says, "I believe religion is a really interesting subject for a writer/filmmaker and if handled properly, it can give birth to good cinema. When I started writing the film, the basic aim was to highlight the hypocrisy associated with the subject. It was never our intention to hurt anyone's religious sentiments and the immense success of the film shows that we managed to pull it off. A lot of comparison has been made between our film and the Australian movie The Man Who Sued God, and it's true that I was greatly inspired by that film. However, there is a difference between getting inspired and copying blindly. We never wanted to copy from it just because it was a successful movie."
He goes on to add, "A writer in Bollywood is only as good as his last script, and not many doors open for us even after delivering a hit. In Hollywood, writers command more respect and even have agents who take care of their business affairs!"
