Parikshit Sahni wants to explore the artiste within
On his recent visit to the city, veteran actor Parikshit Sahni spoke to TOI about his wish to get out of his stereotype image, the laidback attitude of entertainment industryand his connect with Indore.
"Over the years, people have adored me as the ideal onscreen father but I want to come out of it now. People laugh at me when I say this. Par aap kab tak ek hi cheez karoge? I'm an actor and I love to do roles that challenge me and help me explore the artiste within, I loved playing the strict father in 3 Idiots and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, but I would equally enjoy playing a spooky villain. But sadly, we're way too bound by producer's and director's choice," he says.
Miffed about the lackadaisical attitude in Bollywood, he hinted that it's high time we pull up our socks. "Script writing has its own rules and laws but sadly in India, usse koi follow nahi karta. We just want to play safe and not take risks, chahe change ki kitni bhi zaroorat kyun na ho. It's high time we get into some sensible stuff and serve the actual purpose of our media, that is entertainment with education," he adds.
Sahni gets nostalgic as he talks about his favourite city. "I've been to Indore a couple of times and each time I come here, I take back some great memories. It is my favourite city. I remember my cricket coach from my school days was from Indore and was a very handsome guy. He was our role model and all of us wanted to be like him. So I always thought that Indoreans are beautiful people and surprisingly it is true (laughs). Also, the kind of theatre culture that MP has is very inspiring. I have been to Bhopal many times and really liked the fact that the youth is so much into drama and plays. I admire that. I would love to perform here sometime soon. Coming to this state is like homecoming for me," he says.
