Ekta, Vishal stir up a witches’ brew
It was past midnight. Shadowy figures were looming in the darkness, gory life-size dolls were hanging from trees, creepy creatures were making random guest appearances and spookiness was in the air. It was a perfect setting for a gothic novel; only it was a press meet for a film—Ek Thi Dayaan.
The forthcoming supernatural thriller, directed by Kannan Iyer, stars Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen Sharma as the female leads, while Emraan Hashmi plays the male lead.
If the bizarre backdrop with witches greeting you with 'misfortune cookies' did not scare you, you were in for a bigger treat. To add to the eeriness, Emraan performed some heart stopping illusions and magic tricks. About romancing the three dayaans, 'serial kisser' Emraan was asked if he had kissed any of his leading ladies in this film as well. With a devilish grin, he quipped, "I don't spare anyone."
Apart from the actors also present at the occasion, were the producers of the film, Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj. Speaking about whether today's women are more of dayaans than devis, Ekta said: "Women are neither goddesses nor witches—if you are good, she can be the goddess, but when dealing with the devil, she can be a better devil."
This earned a thunderous applause from the audience and a very impressed Vishal Bhardwaj even hoped she could write such strong dialogues for him some day.
