No genuine critics in India: Manoj Bajpai
With the awards season beginning, actors are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping for the best.
But for some like Manoj Bajpai, it remains a matter of disinterest. Bajpai won critical acclaim for his role in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur, earning him a Filmfare 2013 nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role but the actor is unperturbed. "I go to awards but don't except any. I attend because people associated with these functions don't get offended. I just wear my suit and go", says Manoj.
Manoj further expresses his discontent."Gangs of Wasseypur should have gone to the Oscars. I don't get surprised or shocked by the film committee. They have made such decisions in the past too. When Satya was made, they sent Jeans to the Oscars. Only they understand their own decisions. I don't complain and just move on".
Adding, "We don't have genuine critics in our country. People who write reviews are not connected to cinema. They don't read cinema, they only watch films. Unless you know cinema, you can't write about it. Today everybody is a critic and has taken to social networking sites. Some critics give four stars, others give the same film one star. Who do you believe?"
