Sanjay Dutt-Sanjay Gupta bond over baby talk
Friends-turned-foes-turned-friends exchange notes on daddyhood
Former best friends and business partners - Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta - had fallen out after Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) amidst allegations of financial bungling within White Feather Films, the production company they partnered since 2001.
Ever since, the two had stopped interacting and would even avoid bumping into each other at parties and other events. However, all that changed at Amitabh Bachchan's birthday bash on October 10 last year, when this newspaper reported how Dutt and Gupta hugged and made up. Dutt called out to Gupta across a room full of surprised guests. The astonished filmmaker turned around and greeted Dutt with a 'jadoo ki jhappi' after which all the bitterness seemed to melt away.
Just a couple of months down the line and Dutt has once again reached out to Gupta, this time round, to congratulate him on becoming the proud father of a beautiful baby girl. TOI can tell you this is how it all panned out.
Last Saturday, Gupta got a call at around 8.30am. Turned out the person on the other end was Dutt, who had called to congratulate the new dad as he is currently shooting in Chennai. Apparently, Dutt may now host a party at his place to celebrate the birth of the baby girl.
"Dutt was ecstatic when he heard about the baby girl. He now wants to celebrate the occasion the way they used to do earlier. So, don't be surprised if you hear about a party from Dutt in honour of Sanjay Gupta," said a common friend of the two.
Said Gupta, "It was 8.30 in the morning when Dutt called. He said John Abraham is looking fabulous in my poster. We spoke about John for sometime and then he congratulated me on the birth of my daughter."
Like us, Gupta too was left wondering how come Dutt was up so early in the day. Said Gupta, "This was the first question I asked Dutt and then realised that both of us are going through the same phase. Well, we are both off alcohol now and hence wake up in the wee hours. If you have stopped drinking, then you are always up early in the day. The conversation was not enough. We need to catch up properly."
When we tried contacting Dutt, his publicist said, "We don't have any communication from him about the party. But it is true that since Dutt is absolutely off alcohol, he wakes up early in the day. These days he is reporting to shoots at 10 am in the morning."
