Singer Babul Supriyo shoots for his debut Hindi film
Singer Babul Supriyo has started shooting for his debut Hindi film, Joe B Carvalho, in Bangalore from Monday. The film, directed by Sameer Tiwari, also stars Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan and Jaaved Jaffrey.
Says Babul, "It's a slapstick comedy. I play a cameo in this film - a comic character called Malik. He's got shades of grey in him, wears a rugged look and is a gun-toting man. Ever since I was young, I wanted to play comic characters. The most difficult job for an actor is to make people laugh." And what does he have to say about his makeover that he had to undergo for the role? "It reflects Babul's journey from gaan to gun," laughs the singer-actos. Incidentally, he is also in talks with other Bollywood directors for upcoming projects.
Babul has acted in three Bengali films - Chander Bari, Ogo Bodhu Sundori and Hitlist - and is flooded with offers from T-town. "I might do a project with Arindam Sil but nothing is finalized as of now. It's a tricky situation for singers to turn into actors but, fortunately, the audience likes my acting, though, it is not my bread and butter. It excites me. I am acting purely for the love of it. Singers taking up acting is commonplace abroad. I don't know why it becomes an issue in India. I have always loved the concept of being in front of the camera," said Babul.
Serenading the lens he might be but singing will never take a backseat for Babul. "I am doiong playbacks but I would not disclose the names of the movies. Nowadays, three-four singers are singing the same song and it's tough to identify whose voice is retained," he said. "I am in my best singing phase now," Babul added, signing off.
