Kolkata boy Soumyajit bags a role in Mohit Suri's Aashiqui 2
The New Year has started on a good note for Soumyajit Majumdar who has played a major part in revamping the performing arts scene for the youth in Kolkata. He has bagged a pivotal role in Mohit Suri's Aashiqui 2, a project from the Bhatt stable. The city boy is playing the role of a journalist probing the life of rockstars. He will be shooting alongside Aditya Roy Kapoor. The romantic-cum-action film also stars Shraddha Kapoor.
"I had met Mahesh Bhatt when he came to Kolkata in 2011 with the play The Last Salute. I was helping out in the event as an on-ground person. Back then, I had expressed my desire of working with Mahesh sir. As luck would have it, I got a call from the assistant director of the movie, Siddhant Sachdev, who also happens to be an old theatre friend from Delhi. He showed my pictures (on Facebook) to director Mohit Suri. They needed a powerful actor for the role. After numerous rounds of audition, they weren't able to zero in on anyone who looks the role and has the body language the role demands. I was given the opportunity to audition on Skype and immediately bagged the role. Earlier, they wanted me to play a Bengali journalist. But they might decide not to stereotype the role since I can manage decent Hindi," said the 22-year-old.
Soumyajit was asked to keep his bearded look and grow his hair out for the role. He will start shooting from January 20. "I am leaving for Mumbai today. I will get two days to accustom myself on the set and with the cast. It is a dream for every actor to have a tryst with Bollywood. I consider myself lucky because I didn't have to struggle in Mumbai for an initial breakthrough. Rather, my first break is happening because my independent work as a theatre artiste got noticed. I hope this will give an inspiration to several other young actors like me," he said.
