■ □■ Bollywood stars' biggest blunders ■□ ■
Bollywood stars are not mistake-proof, in fact even the biggest stars have made some terrible career choices. Here's a look at some big Bollywood blunders. For starters, SRK may be King Khan, but he has missed as many as two chances to go to the Oscars - once when he refused Lagaan and more recently, when he refused the role given to Anil Kapoor in Slumdog Millionaire. In fact, Shah Rukh was offered the role of the lovable gunda Munnabhai, but he refused and he is the poorer for it as Sanjay Dutt is the richer.
Salman Khan may have been King Khan of Bollywood had it not been for some unfortunate decisions he took in his career. First, he refused to do Baazigar which became the film that 'made' SRK. Then he refused the role given to Saif Ali Khan in Kal Ho Naa Ho. And the biggest blunder for poor Salman, he refused to do the superhit film Chak De India.
Aamir Khan has fewer mistakes in life, but even those prove to be damaging enough. He refused Yash Raj's Darr back in the early 1990s, since he didn't want to risk a negative appearance, and as a result it is Shah Rukh and not he who lands project after project with the biggest banner in Indian films.
Kareena Kapoor has done well enough for herself lately, but success hardly came easily to her. To make things worse for herself she made some terrible career choices, opting for forgettable films instead of ones like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai for which she was chosen, but she walked out of. She was also to play Preity's role in Kal Ho Naa Ho but she turned it down, giving Preity a chance of a lifetime and finally, she also turned down Madhur Bhandarkar's Page 3, perhaps because it was too serious. And look what happened.
Twinkle Khanna could have been more than Mrs Akshay Kumar today, she could have been Rani Mukherjee had she not refused the role of Tina in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Karan Johar pleaded with her, and had in fact written that role with her in mind (hence the name), but she refused and it landed in Rani's lap, making her what she is today - an A-list Bollywood star.
He is known to be a perfectionist, but Hrithik Roshan has made some not-so-great career decisions as well. He refused good friend Farhan Akhtar's superhit debut Dil Chahta Hai, Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades and most damagingly, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti for which he was offered the role of Siddharth.
Another person who refused the role of Siddharth in Rang De Basanti was Arjun Rampal.
Vivek Oberoi refused the role in Hum Tum that ultimately went to Saif Ali Khan, thus losing the support of the Yash Raj banner.
