The Kumbh Mela attracts a lot of B-Towners and Hollywood celebrities alike, either in their professional capacity or for personal reasons.
Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, who hails from the city had spent a considerable time during the last Kumbh along with his cast Jimmy Sheirgill, Irrfan Khan and Hrishita Bhatt shooting for his film Haasil. This time around another Allahabadi director Neeraj Pathak has plans to shoot some Kumbh sequence for his film - the Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel starrer Bhaiyajee Superhit.
"Since the film is based on UP, so the Kumbh Mela is sure to figure in this. I would be coming in the end of January to explore the possibilities and would bring my actors in February for the shoot," says Neeraj.
Actors Ashutosh Rana and Rajpal Yadav will make their presence felt during the Kumbh this year, as in the past. During the last Kumbh, the two actors had stayed like ordinary devotees and participated in all the rituals orgnaised by their guru Dev Prabhakar Shastri, Daddaji.
There is also buzz of Khiladi Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna coming to the Sangam City for the mela. Even Hollywood has been enamoured with the Kumbh. Among the prominent names that discreetly slipped into the last mela was actor Steven Seagal and if sources are to be believed, even singer Madonna. While names of a lot of Hollywood stars like Richard Gere and David Lynch are making rounds as probables on the visitors' list at the Kumbh this year, in an interview Catherine Zeta Jones has expressed her desire to visit the mela along with her actor husband, Michael Douglas.
"I really want to visit India again specifically during the Kumbh Mela pilgrimage and I'm told it is a sight to behold for the eyes and soul. I'm hoping to find what I'm looking for here. I'm trying to make this happen with my family. If that doesn't work out I'm definitely coming on my own," she is quoted to have said.
