Cheteshwar Pujara replaced Virender Sehwag in the 15-man squad
India’s opening batsman, Virender Sehwag, has been passing through a very bad time. He is now out of form. He has been struggling with the bat. Due to his lack of form, he was dropped from the 15-member squad for the first three matches of the five-match ODI series against England starting from January 11.
The 34-year-old Sehwag has been replaced by Cheteshwar Pujara who will make his ODI debut with the series. He has already showed his good form in the longest format of cricket game. His performance in Test series against England was excellent. His career best innings of 206 not out came against England. So, Indian cricket team selectors should expect that he will lead his team to a victory with his bat.
The 24-year-old Pujara has so far played 9 Tests and scored 761 with three centuries and one half-century. It is obviously a big challenge for him as he has made his place in the squad by replacing Virender Sehwag. That is why, both fans and selectors will keep their eyes on him if he can successfully replace that place.
Sehwag was also left out of the third and final ODI squad against Pakistan. Before the match kick off at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium on Saturday, two selectors, Vikram Rathour and Saba Karim, were seen having a chat with Sehwag.
Indian squad was announced by selection committee lead by Sandip Patil immediately after the 3rd ODI match that India won by 10 runs.
