Troubled bridge over water?
You can build a bridge out in the foaming sea, but you cannot get rid of the barnacles (read: politicians) that grow on terra firma.
The Bandra-Worli Sealink, a marvel in Indian architectural history, has become mired in politics already. The state government, in its wisdom, has named it after Rajiv Gandhi. The Shiv Sena, which is confident of returning to power this assembly elections, says it will promptly rename the sealink after Veer Savarkar. Mumbaiites, meanwhile, are referring to the new carriageway as the Bandra-Worli Sealink only. When asked if they would like to suggest a name for it, this is what some citizens had to say...
Whatever the bridge might be called — they should definitely not name it after some politician. The word ‘people’ could be part of the name, for example, ‘The People’s Bridge’.
I think the bridge should be called the ‘Destink Sea Link’. Let’s keep politics out of this. please. Why didn’t they re-name the Bandra-Mahim creek? Or the Thane Creek bridge?
It should be called what the Mumbaiites feel about the sealink and that is ... ‘At last’!
It should be given an easy name like Golden Gate Bridge or Darling Harbour, which sounds contemporary and is easy to remember!
What’s in a name? They should let it be called the Bandra-Worli Sealink.

Rajiv Gandhi was a great statesman who sacrificed his life for the nation. But in no way does the sealink add to his greatness.
The name does not matter. Political groups naming the sealink is the ultimate act of sycophancy and hypocrisy. It should just be called a Sealink.
Rajiv Gandhi was a man who pushed the country for progress. I don’t see any issue in naming the sealink after him.
I don’t see anything wrong with naming the sealink after Rajiv Gandhi. The world over, structures are named after people, so what’s wrong here?
