I love my new look: Shahana Goswami
Shahana Goswami comes across as a no-nonsense, straightforward person, who weighs her words before speaking.
The actor, who is sporting a cute blonde hairdo these days was not recognised by many people while on her recent visit here to promote her upcoming film, nevertheless she’s happy about her new look. She chirps, “This hairstyle was for a film, but I have been getting so many compliments because of it that I am completely in love with it. It’s really cool.”
And this actor whose work has been recognised despite her being new to the industry is proud of the ‘limited’ work she has done.
Talking about her role in Rock On, the dusky lass says, initially when people got to know about her role they thought that she was just playing an innocuous role of a musician’s wife. It was only later that they recognised my work.
She adds, “From the publicity of the film, everyone thought Rock On was all about a group of friends and their music. It was only after watching the film that they gave me credit for my work and related to the pain and agony of a wife of a struggling musician.” She adds, “It was a meaningful role, something that people recognised and I am glad that they did. And yes, it was interesting to play the role of Arjun Rampal’s wife in the movie.”
And this Delhi girl says that her role in forthcoming film is different from roles she played in Nandita Das’ Firaaq and in Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On.
The actor, who has been playing character roles says though she has been getting offers for lead roles, however, she did not opt for them as they were not interesting enough. “I am a little choosy when it comes to work and believe in slow and steady growth. I don’t think the audience will appreciate some silly lead role nor are they concerned about how much screen time an actor gets in a particular film. What matters is the importance and intensity of the character in a film. I have been lucky in making the right choices, while getting an opportunity to work with the best people in the industry.”
And it is not that the actor is not willing to play glamourous roles. In fact, she’s all game for it, provided the roles have meaning. “I would love to do the role essayed by Rekha in Umrao Jaan, which had class, and is still remembered. It is through such roles that an actor gets an opportunity to prove herself,” says Shahana who’s busy shooting for her next films, Tera Kya Hoga Johny and Mirch.
