Kangna Ranaut to play a nautch girl in Vishwas Patil's Rajjo
Renowned author, historian and filmmaker Vishwas Patil ‘s search for the lead of his debut directorial venture Rajjo came to an end when he signed Kangna Ranaut for the lead in the hard-hitting, real to life musical entertainer that will showcase the changing scenario of Mumbai.
Winner of several prestigious literary awards, Vishwas, while zeroing in on his leading lady who plays a nautch girl in the film, was looking for a powerhouse performer with a regal appeal on the lines of the iconic Madhubala. And he found it all in Kangna.
Talking about his Rajjo , Vishwas avers, “Undoubtely, Kangna is a talent to reckon with. However, what appealed to me more was that she has a strong Indianess to her that look that hasn’t been exploited so far. With Rajjo I aim to do just that.
Talking of the film’s story, the director avers, “The film looks into the issue of the mujra houses that are dying a slow death in today’s competitive world of high rises and corruption.”
Observes Kangna, “When I heard the script of the film..I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of it. People will identify me with Rajjo’s character and empathize with her struggle.”
Produced by Four Pillars Entertainment, Rajjo is scheduled to release in the year 2013.
