[Cycling] Armstrong given three weeks to appeal
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has given Lance Armstrong three weeks to appeal a decision to strip him of titles won after July 1998.
Armstrong, 41, was banned from cycling for life in October after the UCI endorsed a United States Anti-Doping Agency report against him for engaging in widespread doping.
The American had his seven Tour de France victories annulled and now faces the prospect of losing other honours, including his Olympic bronze medal.
Armstrong, who finished third in the individual time trial at the Sydney Games in 2000, has always maintained his innocence.
The USADA report, however, claimed Armstrong was a 'serial cheat who led the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping program that sport has ever seen'.
The International Olympic Committee said this month it would wait for the UCI to contact Armstrong and allow him the right to appeal before taking away the bronze medal.
