Hayden makes fast start in Valencia
American Nicky Hayden was quickest in Friday's first MotoGP practice session at the Valencia Grand Prix after clocking one minute 44.485 seconds.
The Ducati rider's fastest lap was 1.005 seconds better than five-time Valencia winner Dani Pedrosa as rain fell at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
Repsol Honda rider Pedrosa was outpaced by Hayden with two minutes to go in the session.
Yamaha ace Jorge Lorenzo (+1.460) set the third fastest time.
Andrea Dovizioso (+1.536) was fifth in front of San Carlo Honda Gresini's Alvaro Bautista (+1.928), who is looking to defend his fifth spot in the championship this weekend.
Power Electronics Aspar Aleix Espargaro (+2.089) was sixth quickest, finishing ahead of Hayden's Ducati team-mate Valentino Rossi (+2.193) in seventh.
Monster Yamaha tech 3's Cal Crutchlow posted a time of one minute 46.839 seconds and Power Electronics Aspar's Randy De Puniet (+2.554) came in at ninth.
Phillip Island Grand Prix winner, Honda's Casey Stoner, rounded out the top 10 by completing his fastest lap in one minute 47.527 seconds.
