Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Jail will lock horns at the box-office with Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee? Both the films are set for a September 25 release. Jail, co-produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and Percept Picture Company, will compete with UTV Motion Picture’s What’s Your Raashee?

What’s interesting is that Ashutosh has the winning combination of UTV and Priyanka Chopra who were associated with Madhur’s last film, Fashion. And given that Fashion was received well by critics and audiences, it will certainly be fascinating to see how What’s Your Raashee? fares.

Jail was originally set to release in early November, but has been preponed by a month-and-a-half now. Not worrying about the clash of films, Madhur said, “Jail and What’s Your Raashee? belong to different genres. There won’t really be a clash. Actually, PPC took the call to release Jail on September 25.” He then quickly added, “Besides, it’ll be fun to have both these films release on the same day.”

Ashok Ahuja, the director of PPC said, “Jail is coming to the theatres a little earlier than planned. We thought of releasing it in the pre-Diwali week, but Madhur wasn’t too enthusiastic about that. Then we thought of October 2, but Wake Up Sid and Do Knot Disturb are already releasing on that day.”

Surprisingly, UTV is not aware that the films are slated to release on the same day. Sunil Wadhwa, vice president - motion pictures, domestic distribution, UTV said, “This is news to me. As far as I know, What’s Your Rashee? was supposed to release solo on September 25. That was the call taken by the Producers’ Association. But if the clash happens, I don’t really think there’ll be a problem. Madhur’s Fashion worked very well for us and we will always share a good relationship with him.”

Ashutosh Gowariker remained unavailable for comment.
