Tasher Desh to premiere at The Rome Film Festival
Tasher Desh, (The Land of Cards), directed by India’s new Indie cinema sensation Q has been selected to be screened at the 7th edition of the Rome Film Festival.
Tasher Desh, the only Indian film under the CinemaXXI section a new competition category section, created this year under the leadership role of Marco Mueller, the recently appointed artistic director for the festival.
CinemaXXI will focus on works that reflect the continuous reinvention of cinema in the contemporary audiovisual landscape.
The film tells the story of a prince, imprisoned since childhood, who overcomes his destiny with the divine help of an Oracle. He and his friend embark on an adventure, landing on a paradise island. Here they meet strange people, who have numbers instead of names and are all soldiers in a country driven by rules. This is the Land of Cards, where the prince and his friend bring a wind of change, passing on the message of liberation to the Ace of Hearts, sparking off a feminist revolution.
Produced by National Film Development Corporation, Overdose Joint, Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt Ltd, Dream Digital and Entre Chien et Loup, the cast of the film includes Joyray Bhattacharjee, Rituparna Sen, Saumyak Kanti De Biswas, Anubrata Basu, Tillotoma Shome, Imaad Shah, Tinu Verghese and many more.
Commenting on the selection of his most awaited film, director of the film, Q, said, “It’s an ecstatic moment for me and my team at Overdose Joint to have Tasher Desh premiere as the only Indian film selected at The Rome Film Festival! With the story being a contemporary and cinematic manifestation of Tagore’s famous play Tasher Desh, we look forward to have the film to travel to many more festivals and also be loved by the audiences back home in India.”

The festival is scheduled to take place from 9- 17 November at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome.
