India's sea link bridge set to open!!!The first bridge to be built over the sea in India is set to open in the western city of Mumbai
The eight-lane, 5.6km (3.47 mile)-long, bridge links the western suburbs of Bandra with Worli over the Arabian Sea.
It is expected to ease traffic congestion and help cut travelling time between the two suburbs from 40 to eight minutes. This is India's first cable-stayed bridge in the open sea, which would reduce the 40-minute journey to just 8-minutes.
Officials say more than 3,000 people took eight years to build the $400m (£240m) bridge.
The bridge will be opened by ruling Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday[Today]. Commuters will pay a $1 toll to travel one way.
"Undoubtedly the Bandra-Worli Sea Link is an engineering marvel which shows that Indian construction players have come of age, and are capable of matching global counterparts," analyst Hitesh Agarwal told the AFP news agency.
Authorities say the bridge is a way to ease Mumbai's traffic problems - the island city with a population of 18 million has more than 1.5 million vehicles.
