Heroine (2012) Movie Review
Watch HEROINE for Madhur's imposing direction, for Kareena's superlative performance, watch it also for its fearless, inspiring and enlightening storyline divulging the scandalous realities of the movie industry. Try not to miss it!
While the first half goes about with the various ups and downs, the second half goes about with how certain decisions in life can change the fortunes of people. Overall, this is a film which has tried to showcase the other side of a heroine's life. At the box office, this will be a commercial success if it was not for the drag.
Performances by the supporting cast, including Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and Divya Dutta, are passable, but a sequence of Kareena with Shahana Goswami and another with Helen deserves a special mention. It's in these stray sequences that Bhandarkar's prowess as a filmmaker sparkles. The rest is mostly a wash-out.
To sum up, after watching so many women centric cine delights offered by Madhur, Heroine somewhat fails in meeting the previous benchmarks set by the director, and could only be watched to witness the oodles of oomph of Kareena.
Over all, Heroine is nothing but a rehashed version of Madhur's earlier movies and clearly a disappointing affair. Watch only if you are a Kareena Kapoor fan as she alone is the highlight of the film.
Heroine is drably monotonous, its insights are shallow, most of the characters are caricatures and the lines that they speak border on the corny, if not on the outright ridiculous.
In the end, we may not give Bhandarkar the credit of being 'too' realistic this time, but he should be praised for at least trying to find a solution that his heroine discovers in the end.
Overall, a great birthday gift from acclaimed director Madhur Bhandarkar for his muse Kareena Kapoor on her birthday. Bebo has proved again she is a versatile actor and does dominate the screen and the hearts of the masses.
Technically it is super flawed. The lighting is so flat that it reminds you of a cheap, low-budget soap on television. The screenplay reminds one of college set-ups. Take for example the very first scene at the Colaba police station. Everything that shouts out is D I S A S T E R. The set, the design, the content of the scene, and yes the lighting.
On the whole, Heroine owes whatever little it has to Kareena Kapoor. This is a lifetime performance by the feisty actress and she turns out to be the only consolation in a slow paced movie. If only the drama and stereotypes had been reduced, the movie could have offered a bit more than just a solid Kareena performance.
On the whole, Heroine is old wine in new bottle. The film lacks life and passion and moreover drably monotonous. In one word, we aren't wowed at the climax of the film.dR Boss is back babyy
