Papers: Ronaldo no to City
Ronaldo’s City KO
Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed he will never join Manchester City while Alex Ferguson is still boss at United. Real Madrid’s £80million star is unhappy at the Bernabeu — and that has alerted big-spending City. But a source close to Ronaldo, 27, said: “Cristiano has always been close to Alex Ferguson and even now they still talk. Cristiano simply would not risk hurting him by joining Ferguson’s immediate rivals.” Ronaldo recently spelt out just what Ferguson meant to him. He said: “When I arrived at United I was 18 and Sir Alex was like a father to me. He taught me many things. I worked with him for six years and he is a great human, a great coach. Sir Alex and Jose Mourinho are the two best coaches in the world.” But Ronaldo is now unhappy with Mourinho’s Madrid as he wants a new deal worth £25m a year.
The Express says Premier League chairmen will meet today to consider a range of potential financial controls to limit spending by top-flight clubs that would further reflect UEFA’s plans for Financial Fair Play. The league’s top executives have produced a discussion paper on financial controls for the chairmen to consider, which could eventually lead to clubs being forced to break even every year or face sanctions. This is a follow-up from a discussion that took place earlier in the summer.
Of course, many of today’s papers also include United’s decision to sign South American striker Angelo Henriquez from Universidad de Chile. Although the deal was originally announced a few weeks ago, it was only officially confirmed on Wednesday.
