Nawazuddin to play a womanizing school teacher in Kashyap's Haraam-Khor
Ever since he played an inspector in the Vidya Balan-starrer Kahaani effectively, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has impressed both filmmakers and the audience with his roles in Miss Lovely and Gangs of Wasseypur.
Impressed with Nawazuddin, Anurag Kashyap has signed the multi-talented actor for his upcoming film Haraam-Khor that would be helmed by his one time assistant Shlok Sharma who had assisted him in No Smoking, Dev D and Gangs Of Wasseypur.
The film, set in a small dusty Gujarati town, will have Nawazuddin play a school teacher who has more than an academic interest in one of his female students to be played by newcomer Shweta Triparthi.
Explained Nawazuddin of the role, “It’s a controversial subject and the character is not the role-model kind of teacher that we see in films like To Sir With Love and Mahesh Bhatt’s Sir. Mine is a grey character. It reflects the reality today about our education system on so many levels.”
According to Nawazuddin, he has used newspaper stories as a reference for his character. “It’s important to keep the character as real as possible. And since it’s such a sensitive subject questioning the sacrosanct relationship between guru and shishya we wanted to be sure,” he said.
Incidentally, the actor has recently been signed to play the main lead role in Ketan Mehta's next film titled Mountain Main.
