Amitabh Bachchan: From a failed RJ to the Megastar
We have loved him, we have admired him on-screen, we have worshipped him; and yes, not many would nod to it, but some have even criticised him to the extent of loathing him at one time. But the phenomenon called Amitabh Bachchan fails to extinguish. It’s been more than 55 years since a lanky English graduate from Allahbad appeared for an interview in ‘Akashvani’, country’s radio broadcasting channel. He failed, the reason being cited, “Your voice is not suitable for radio.” Yes, and we cannot imagine the best of our movies without his trademark baritone voice. Amitabh began his glorious cinematic journey with the help of the Gandhis, country’s most influential family which was friends with the Bachchans. Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister, wrote a letter of recommendation for Bachchan; the offers have never stopped since then. We try to chronicle an amazingly fruitful journey of the actor, addressed as the ‘Megastar’ now, taking in consideration the 15 phases of his career over the years which helped him become Him....being a human...
