Ronaldo rejects Spain claims
Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed claims from the Spain camp that Portugal have an advantage heading into Wednesday's Euro 2012 semi-final having had two more days to rest.
Portugal defeated Czech Republic 1-0 in the quarter-finals courtesy of Ronaldo's header two days before Spain saw off France 2-0 to set up a meeting with their neighbours in the final four.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said the reigning world and European champions had a "small handicap" as a result, but Ronaldo does not subscribe to that theory.
"Three days' rest is more than enough," he said. "The Spaniards claimed having two days is a disadvantage but, as a professional, I believe it is not an important factor."
The Real Madrid forward has been in sparkling form over the past two games, scoring three times to inspire Portugal to reach the semi-finals, but says he is unfazed by the prospect of playing against the country he currently calls home.
"I don’t feel pressure playing against Spain," Ronaldo said. "These games are part of my life. I have spent 10 years playing these type of games for club and country and I have to be accustomed to it.
“I feel responsibility, yes. But pressure, no. It’s beautiful for Portugal to be able to reach another final, it will be difficult but we are only one step away.
“We have done great work to get here not only in the finals but also in the qualifiers.”
