Tennis row: Leander Paes backs out of London Olympics?
The Indian tennis ace, Leander Paes, has decided to opt out of the London Olympics. His father, Dr Vece Paes, spoke to a news channel and unraveled his decision.
The tennis star will send a letter to the AITA rejecting the compromise formula. His father, talking to a news channel, stated that the association is rewarding those who are blackmailing the country.
According to the TV reports, Leander Paes seeks assurance from AITA to play alongside Sania Mirza for the mixed doubles title at London Olympics.
As the dirty linen of the Lee-Hesh partnership was washed on national television for the better part of a week, sometimes even overshadowing the murky dealings in the race for Raisina Hill, it is obvious that neither of the three players in this sordid saga give a damn about the country.
AITA with its back to wall announced its final decision, a decision that could sound the death knell for the Olympics Gold hopes. Vishnu Vardhan (ranked 318) was picked to play with Leander Paes effectively neutering his chances at what is quite possibly his last shot at Olympic glory.
And as Dr Vece Paes said in a TV interview, "Two people are holding the country to ransom." (Our guess is, he means Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna who refused to partner with his son, Leander Paes.) But from a tennis fan's point-of-view, the two blanks in Vese's statement are the decorated servants of Indian tennis—Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, who, in a true Bollywood-esque manner have bartered a possible shot at the gold for a no-holds-barred slugfest....being a human...
