Saif Ali Khan to star in Gurinder Chadha's next?
After introducing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to the global film circuits with ‘Bride and Prejudice’, Britain-based Indian filmmaker Gurinder Chadha is set to give Nawab Saif some taste of the ‘firangi’ films. The director has approached Saif to play the role of Jawaharlal Nehru in her next film which is based on partition.
Talking to a daily, Chadha confirmed, “This is my biggest challenge to date. I've been working on my partition film for some time now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten. The movie is set in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to oversee India and the movie ends in August 1947, so it's a brief time span.”
And, it’s not just Saif who has caught the eye of the director, in fact veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has been approached for the role of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the film.
“I've spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru's role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif would be willing to do it,” she added.
The director is planning to begin the shooting in India in October and is planning to rope in Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender for the role of Lord Mountbatten....being a human...
