Van Persie's dad rules out City switch
Robin Van Persie's father, Bob, has dismissed talk his son is set to move to Manchester City, hinting the striker may stay on with Arsenal in the long-term.
Van Persie's contract with the Gunners expires next summer. The future of the Dutch striker has been the subject of much debate in recent months, with a number of Europe's biggest clubs reportedly interested in luring van Persie away from the Emirates, but his father ruled out a number of potential destinations.
"He'd never go to Manchester City as it's impossible he would play for another Premier League side that wasn't Arsenal," Bob van Persie told El Mundo Deportivo.
"It would make no sense to go to Barcelona when they've already got Leo Messi.
"Real Madrid would be a good option, but they are not so much a team as a collection of star names, so he wouldn't really fit in there either."
Serie A giants Juventus are also thought to be considering a move for van Persie, however Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis remains confident the Netherlands international will agree to a contract extension at the completion of Euro 2012.
Meanwhile, Johan Djourou appears set to leave the Gunners this summer, with his agent, Flavio Ferraria, responding to claims the defender will join Napoli by declaring an offer has been received submitted by one of a number of suitors.
"Can Djourou join Napoli? It's certainly possible, especially as we will be in Italy next week for a series of appointments," Ferraria told Radio Crc.
"At the moment Napoli are not on the list of appointments, but everything is possible. If the lad leaves the Premier League, then he will play in Italy or Spain.
"I saw my client the other day and he was enthusiastic about both Napoli and Italy in general. So far we have received an offer worth €10 million, but it is up for negotiation. The lad wants to play for one of the top five Italian clubs."
