The report submitted to the Planning Commission of India on Friday brought a fresh setback for Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as Gujarat failed to make it to top 5 in terms of GDP growth rate.

Bihar has registered a remarkable turnaround as it has clocked 13.1% growth in 2011-12.

Bihar, which was once considered to be synonymous with poverty, is now the fastest growing state of the country pertaining to GDP growth rate.

The economy of Bihar has also grown bigger than that of Punjab, which was once a prime destination for Bihari workers.

Bihar is followed by Congress leader Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi and Puducherry at 11.3%, 11% respectively.

Mineral-rich Chhattisgarh, known for its violent Naxal movement bags 4th position with 10.8%

Goa is the 5th one which completes the list with 10.7%.

Gujarat, most favoured destination for investors, grew at 9.1% during the last financial year but failed to register itself among the top five states.

Not only growth rate, but Gujarat has other reasons as well to cry for as among the more industrialised states Tamil Nadu is ahead of Gujarat with 9.4% growth (at 2004-05 prices).

Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, registered growth that was lower than India's GDP growth of 6.5% in 2011-12.
