Kareena to play Jejamma in 'Arundhati' remake
A couple of months ago, we had reported that both Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor have been approached to play the lead in the Hindi remake of "Arundhati". Now, we hear that Kareena has given her nod for the project.
‘Arudhati’ is 2009 blockbuster film and female protagonist was Anuska Shetty. This is a period film with a socio-fantasy backdrop. Arundhati had given a new image to Anushka Shetty. The Mangalore lass, who was seen only in glamorous roles till then, impressed the audience with her entirely new avatar of queen Jejjamma.
However, for the role of queen Arundhati many top Bollywood actresses like Katrina Kaif and Rani Mukherjee were rumored to do but Kareen was finalized for the roll. The queen Arundhati who kills a devil played by Sonu Sood in the film. Speaking about the role Kareen Kapoor said, “I am excited to do this that had importance for the female character.” Kareena is going to do her second ancient film after ‘Ashoka’ where she played Maharani Kaurwaki”.
Sonu Sood the male antagonist is also going to do the same character in the Hindi remake. Hindi remake rights of the film ‘Arundhati’ is purchased by Gemini Film Circuit. The house will give the same touch to the film in Hindi version.
‘Arundhati’, was written and directed by Kodi Ramakrishna starred Anushka and Sonu Sood in the lead. The film was released on 16 January 2009 to positive reviews and emerged as a commercial blockbuster and became one of the highest grossing Telugu films of the time. Owing to its success, it was later dubbed into Tamil and Malayalam with the same title and in Oriya as ‘Mantrasakti’.
