I&B Ministry stalls The Dirty Picture telecast
Vidya Balan shot to fame becoming one of the most sought after actresses with the success of her film The Dirty Picture. Though the film initially met with staunch criticism for its more than bold theme, the queries of the audiences and critics alike were put to rest on its release. Yesterday (April 22) the film was scheduled to be telecast on national television twice (at 12 noon and 8 pm), however the channel stopped the telecast by simply putting up a message that read: 'For unavoidable reasons we regret to inform The Dirty Picture will not be telecast today. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted'.
Apparently, the film which had earlier been cleared by the censor board post undertaking 52 cuts, was stopped by the direct intervention of the I & B Ministry. The reason for the sudden stoppage in the telecast is that according to the Cable Network Act the objectionable content cannot be telecast at prime time on television, while in case of The Dirty Picture, the film already has two PIL's lodged against it for objectionable content.
Tweeting about this, Balaji CEO, Tanuj Garg said, "It's unfortunate that even after ...a valid censor certificate being in place, the telecast was held! The cuts made to TDP were done in a manner that would not offend the larger populace but completely retain the film's creative integrity! Despite the cuts and a CC, forces in Delhi decided to hold the telecast!"
